Police: Burglar Jumped Fence While Fleeing From Officers

The suspect used a hammer and electric saw to try to open a safe inside Meadow Farms Nursery.

A man broke into Meadow Farms Nursery, then jumped a chain link fence as police surrounded the building, Prince William County Police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said.

Luis Alanzo Pacheco, 47, of no fixed address, is charged with burglary, possession of burglarious tools, resisting arrest and providing a false identity to police.

Police officers responded to the nursery on Jefferson Davis Highway around 11:20 p.m. July 11, where they heard noises coming from inside.

"The suspect was able to jump a chain linked fence and run into nearby woods. A police K-9 was onscene and used to search for the suspect," Perok said. "The suspect was eventually located and arrested."

Pacheco had a hammer and electric saw, which he had used to try to open a safe inside the business, Perok said. After the arrest, Pacheco also allegedly gave police a false name, but officers were able to identify him.

Pacheco is held without bond pending his court date.
