Police: Carrying Small Child, Suspect Flees Hit and Run

A suspect is accused of fleeing the scene of a hit and run carrying a 2-year-old boy who was also in the car at the time.

Kwame Asomani, 32 of the 7800 block of Belford Drive, Alexandria, was charged with felony child neglect, driving under the influence (2nd in 5 years) and hit & run.

At 10:04 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the 13500 block of Quate Lane regarding a crash. Officers arrived to find the vehicle with significant damage. Witnesses reported that the driver fled the scene carrying a small child, according to police spokesperson Officer Jonathan Perok.

"The investigation revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle which crashed into a parked, unoccupied vehicle," according to Perok. "The force of the collision pushed that vehicle into two other parked, unoccupied vehicles."

Witnesses told police that Asomani ran toward a nearby home, where he was located and arrested.

The child, who was not injured, was released to other family members.
