Police: Child Porn Suspect Turns Self in Because of "FBI Warning" Computer Virus

Police say this is the third time this month that officers have made an arrest after juveniles sent inappropriate photos or messages to adults.

A Woodbridge man turned himself in to police after a virus displaying an "FBI warning" popped up on his screen while he was viewing child pornography, Prince William County Police said.

Jay Matthew Riley, 21, of Woodmark Drive in Woodbridge, is charged with three counts of possession of child pornography, one count of using a communication device to solicit certain offenses involving children and one count of indecent liberties with a minor.

Police say this is the third time this month that officers have made an arrest after juveniles sent inappropriate photos or messages to adults. They are urging parents to monitor their children's internet activity.

Police began to investigate Riley in early July, after he came into the Garfield District Station in Woodbridge to "inquire if he had any warrants on file for child pornography," police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said in a press release. Riley had received a message with an "FBI warning" on his computer while looking at child pornography at his home, Perok said.

"The message instructed the accused to pay a fine or be subject to a criminal investigation," Perok said. "The accused voluntarily brought his computer to the station and, following a search, several inappropriate messages and photos of underage girls were recovered."

Detectives identified one of the girls as a 13-year-old from Minnesota, and executed a search warrant at Riley's home. Officers seized computers and electronics, and arrested Riley on Tuesday. Police also determined that the "FBI message" was a virus.
