Police: Driver Abandoned Car After Eluding Officer

Suspect connected to several cigarette larcenies, according to Prince William County Police.

A driver ignored a Prince William County police officer's emergency lights and eventually abandoned a car on the side of the road on I-95, according to police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok.

Carlos Alberto Bensusan, 29, of Washington Street in Dumfries, is charged with one count of grand larceny, two counts of petit larceny, one count of possession of a schedule I/II narcotic, one count of felony eluding and one count of brandishing a firearm.

A police officer was driving near Jefferson Davis Highway and River Heritage Boulevard in Dumfries around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday night, when he witnessed people arguing in a 7-Eleven parking lot. Bensusan left the parking lot and continued on Jefferson Davis Highway, but did not stop after the officer put on his emergency equipment, according to Perok. Authorities found Bensusan's empty vehicle by the side of the road later on.

"Officers further determined that the accused was suspected in a larceny of several cigarette cartons and of brandishing a firearm," by the 7-Eleven, Perok said.

"The accused was further connected to other larcenies involving cigarettes at the Food Lion located at 17120 Jefferson Davis Hwy and at the CVS located at 16712 Jefferson Davis Hwy which occurred earlier in the evening."

Police obtained warrants for Bensusan's arrest and later found him by Jefferson Davis Highway and American Eagle Drive.
