Police have charged Darius Washington, 36, of no fixed address, with robbery and attempted malicious wounding after a woman reported that her purse had been snatched, Prince William County Police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said.
Police initially responded to the 14900 block of Jefferson Davis Highway in Woodbridge on Oct. 10 at 8:42 p.m. for the report of a robbery.
"The victim, a 34-year-old woman of no fixed address, reported to police that she and the accused, a known acquaintance, were walking in the area above when a verbal altercation ensued over property the victim was carrying," Perok said. "During the encounter, the accused displayed knife and began slashing towards the victim. The victim was able to run across the street however the accused caught up and assaulted her before taking her purse and fleeing the area. No injuries were reported. Officers located and arrested the accused a short time later."
