Police: Man Handcuffed Roommates in Dispute

Suspect and victims were also coworkers, having an argument over work, according to Prince William County Police.

A Woodbridge man is accused of handcuffing his roommates in a dispute over work, according to Prince William County Police.

James Stephens Cottingham II, 27, of Kingsman Rd., is charged with two counts of abduction and one count of assault and battery.

The victims, a 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, told police that they were handcuffed by Cottingham in an incident overnight between June 22 and June 23, according to PWCPD spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok.

The victims told police they were arguing with Cottingham about a work-related issue — all three are security guards with a private company. Cottingham also allegedly kicked the male victim.

The victims were reportedly released from the handcuffs after about 30 minutes. Minor injuries were reported, according to police.

Cottingham was arrested on Monday, July 8. He is currently being held without bond and a court date is not available.
