Police: Man, Held at Knifepoint, Forced to Withdraw Cash From ATM

A store clerk saw the suspect swinging a knife toward the victim, according to Prince William County Police.

A man holding a knife forced an acquaintance to withdraw money from an ATM at a Woodbridge 7-Eleven early Tuesday morning, Prince William County Police said.

Rodney Atkinson, 48, of no fixed address, is charged with attempted armed robbery, attempted malicious wounding and abduction.

A clerk at the store on Gideon Road reported the incident around 12:30 a.m., after witnessing Atkinson swinging a knife toward the victim, police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said. The 24-year-old victim was held at knifepoint while Atkinson forced him to withdraw money, Perok said.

Police arrested Atkinson after an investigation. No one was injured and Atkinson did not try to rob the business, Perok said.
