Police: Man Twice Burglarized Daycare, Torched Stolen Van

Adrian Powell Bennett, of Woodbridge, faces burglary, grand larceny and a number of other charges.

A Woodbridge man faces a host of charges in relation to three local burglaries, including the theft and arson of a daycare van, Prince William County Police said.

Police arrested Adrian Powell Bennett, 20, of Covered Bridge Lane in Woodbridge, on Nov. 2, after they responded to an alarm at Lake Ridge Auto Care on Touchstone Circle.

Officers arrived at the business at 1:37 a.m. and saw that a window on an overhead garage door was broken. As the officers looked over the property, an unknown man, later identified as Bennett, left the building. The man fled on foot after officers challenged him, said Officer Jonathan Perok, a spokesman for the police department. After a short pursuit, police apprehended Bennett.

"Officers learned that while inside the business, the accused took two sets of keys to two different vehicles which were parked in the lot behind the business," Perok said in a press release.

Police said that they also connected Bennett to two additional burglaries at Minnieland on the Prince William Parkway. After the first burglary on Oct. 24, a daycare van was stolen and later set on fire. During the second burglary on Nov. 2, Bennett allegedly entered the daycare through an unsecured window, but no property was reported missing. That incident took place just hours before the Lake Ridge Auto Care burglary.

In connection with the burglary of Lake Ridge Auto Care, Bennett was charged with two counts of attempted grand larceny, one count of destruction of property, burglary, two counts of petit larceny and one count of resisting arrest.

Police charged Bennett with one count of burglary in relation to the Nov. 2 incident at Minnieland. He was charged with another count of burglary and one count of grand larceny in relation to the Oct. 24 incident. The Fire Marshal has also charged him with one count of arson.

The information in this article was provided by the Prince William County Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
