Police Officers Flatten Tire to Stop Vehicle of Fleeing Suspect

Prince William County Police said the driver was driving while under the influence of drugs.

Officers had to take extreme measures to stop a driver allegedly high on drugs who ignored police emergency equipment, Prince William County Police said. 

Wayne Edward Byrne, 51, of Joplin Road in Triangle, is charged with driving under the influence of drugs, eluding, possession of a schedule I or II narcotic and distribution of marijuana. 

Police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said that the officer signaled Byrne to stop Friday at 10:13 p.m., while they were near Oak Farm Drive and Maple Ridge Drive.

"The driver, later identified as the accused, ignored the officer’s emergency equipment and continued to the area of Jacks Dr and Rush Dr," Perok said in a press release."

The officer deployed stop sticks and flattened one of the tires on Byrne's vehicle.

Perok said that Byrne was in posession of marijuana at the time of the arrest, and officers suspected cocaine as well.
