Police: Officers Found Burglar on Roof of Furniture Store

Firefighters had to bring a ladder truck so that officers could arrest the suspect, according to Prince William County Police.

Officers found a burglar on the roof of a furniture store after an alarm went off, and eventually caught him by climbing up a ladder on a fire truck, according to Prince William County Police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok.

Eric James Pezely, 28, of no fixed address, is charged with one count of burglary, one count of possession of burglarious tools and two counts of possession of a concealed weapon.

Police responded to Haverty's Furniture Store on Opitz Boulevard Tuesday at 3:42 a.m. after an alarm went off. When officers arrived, they saw an unknown man inside the business, Perok said. After additional officers surrounded the business, they saw the man on the roof.

The Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue then provided a ladder truck so that officers could climb onto the roof. Officers detained him without further incident.

"The investigation revealed that the accused had accessed the roof by climbing an exterior drainage pipe on the outside of the building and then entered the business through a roof hatch," Perok said. "A search of the accused revealed several burglarious tools, a steel pipe, and a knife."

Pezely is held without bond pending an Oct. 16 court date.
