Police: Shoplifter Pepper-Sprayed Saks' OFF 5TH Staff

Man wanted for allegedly stealing $1,300 worth of clothing, Prince William County Police said.

A DC man pepper sprayed two Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH workers after they confronted him about shoplifting in the store, Prince William County Police said.

Derrick Kiwan Brown, 27, of Kenilworth Avenue, is wanted for two counts of malicious injury by caustic substance and one count of grand larceny.

The loss prevention workers, a 32-year-old Woodbridge man and 40-year-old Manassas man, reported on July 4 at 2:30 p.m. that they saw an unknown man shoplifting. The value of the stolen items was about $1,300, police said.

"The victims confronted the man in the parking lot, at which point, the man sprayed both victims to their faces with pepper spray," Perok said. "The man then fled on foot, dropping the stolen merchandise, and then got into a vehicle with D.C. tags."

The man dropped a D.C. driver's license that identified him, and the victims provided police with a tag number. Neither employee reported injuries, apart from the pepper spray irritation.
