Police Warn of Driveway Paving Scam

Elderly couple cheated out of money after paying for work done on their driveway.

Prince William County Police are urging residents to be wary of driveway paving scams, after several Manassas and Woodbridge residents were recently cheated out of their money.

Police urge residents to be careful of accepting unsolicited offers, and warn that paving scams often target the elderly. In one recent incident, three suspects knocked on an elderly couple's door, and asked if they wanted their driveway paved. The victims agreed to the work, but the suspects stole cash and documents from the home, and left the driveway half-done.

The suspects were described as a Hispanic male, 30-40 years old, 250-300 pounds, and a Hispanic female, 25-30 years old, over 150 pounds. A description was not available for a third man. They were driving a new white Ford or Chevy pickup truck.

In another incident, a man agreed to have his driveway sealed, but noticed a few days later that someone had entered the house through an unlocked window. Nothing was taken.

The suspect in that case was described as a white male, 20-25 years old, 5'7", 160 pounds, with tan skin. He was clean shaven and had a Middle Eastern accent. The other man was a white male, 20-25 years old, 5'7", 170 pounds. They were driving a new orange Dodge Ram 1500 pickup.

To avoid becoming a victim, police urge the public not to let solicitors inside the house, decline the offer, and call police if they refuse to leave.
