Police: Woman Arrested At Her Home After Calling 911

Dina Elizabeth Guardado, who suffers from mental illness, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer after she called 911.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A woman who called 911 after a disagreement with her father allegedly assaulted an officer who responded to the call, Prince William County Police said.

Dina Elizabeth Guardado, 26, of Woodbridge, was charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

Police responded to the 911 call at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, and during the investigation Guardado "became agitated and assaulted one of the officers," Prince William County Police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said in a press release.

Guardado's father, Luis Guardado, told Patch that when the police arrived, his daughter began to hug one of the police officers. As she was hugging the police officer, Luis Guardado said he explained to the other police officer that his daughter suffered from mental illness and asked the officers to be gentle with her.

"For that reason, I am very angry with the police because when my daughter tried to hug Officer Watts, his reaction was to grab my daughter from the hair and throw her against the floor," Guardado said in an email to Patch. "When that happened, I tried to intervene, but Officer Watts took out an electrical gun and pointed it at me."

Guardado said he became scared that the police officer would use his gun to kill him.

The Prince William County Police Department said Dina Guardado bit one of the officers on his hand during the struggle. The officer reported minor injuries. Guardado was arrested and detained without further incident.
