Police: Woodbridge Man Hid in Closet as Officers Searched Home

The man later assaulted an officer as police tried to arrest him, according to Prince William County Police.

A Woodbridge man faces charges after he allegedly assaulted an officer during an arrest, Prince William County Police said. 

Devonte Lanelle Taylor, 20, of Powells Creek Circle, Woodbridge, is charged with assault & battery on law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.

On Wednesday at 8:38 a.m., police were trying to find the Taylor at his home on a warrant for failure to appear in court. They found him in a closet of a basement bedroom, according to police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok. 

"Officers placed the accused in handcuffs, at which point, he began to thrust backwards, striking the officer multiple times," Perok said in a press release.

Taylor was eventually detained without further incident, Perok said. The officer was not injured. 

Taylor is held without bond pending his court date.
