Police have charged Portsmouth resident Kevin Corbett, 27, with assault and battery on LEOresisting arrest, and intoxication in public after an officer was reportedly struck and spit at on Sept. 22, Prince William County Police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said.

Police initially responded to Abbey Knoll Court in Woodbridge on Sept. 22 at 12:30 a.m. for a report of a suspicious person.

"Multiple callers reported to police that an unknown man was walking through the neighborhood banging on doors," Perok said. "An officer responded and located the man, identified as the accused. The accused was found to be under the influence of alcohol. As the officer was attempting to arrest the accused, he actively resisted leading to a brief struggle. The accused was eventually detained and transported to the Adult Detention Center. Once there, the accused became agitated and spat at the arresting officer on two occasion, striking him to the face and chest, then to his legs and abdomen."
