State Police HOV Campaign Yields 449 Violations

Virginia State Police targeted local interstates.

A Virginia State Police campaign Tuesday to target high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane violators resulted in 646 summonses and arrests in one day.

During both morning and evening rush hours, Virginia law enforcement targeted HOV violators on Interstates 66, 95, 395, and the Dulles Toll Road. 

In Maryland, state police also conducted HOV enforcement efforts, on Interstate 270.

Due to , traffic detours forced the HOV enforcement on Interstate 95 to be discontinued during morning rush hour on Tuesday. 

The multi-state campaign yielded 449 HOV violations:

In addition, Maryland and Virginia law enforcement cited 47 drivers for having either revoked or invalid driver’s licenses. Eleven drivers were stopped for reckless driving and another 46 drivers were stopped for speeding.

Eight motorists in Virginia were charged with failing to comply with the state’s “Move Over” law where drivers have to yield right-of-way or slow down when approaching stationary emergency vehicles on highways. Five seat belt violations were cited, along with 10 child restraint violations.

During morning rush hour, Virginia State Police made a fugitive arrest. The Maryland State Police made the remaining three fugitive/criminal arrests.
