Update: Two Arrested in Stolen Car Chase

Two Alexandria residents are facing charges.

Police were working an unrelated armed robbery case in Woodbridge when the Automated License Plate Reader notified officers that a stolen car out of Fairfax County was passing by.

An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but then a chase gave way. Police chased the vehicle down Cardinal Drive onto Route 1 during which a tire deflation device was deployed near the Garfield District police station on Cardinal Drive. The stolen vehicle's front and back driver's side tires were deflated, but the suspect continued to drive the car near Route 1. 

It was near the intersection of Route 1 where the car hit a civilan vehicle – injuring two passengers – and three police cars. Total damage to all vehicles is estimated at $18,000.

A 17-year-old Alexandria boy, the driver, is charged with four counts of felony hit-and-run, three counts of attempted malicious wounding on law enforcement officer, one count of attempted malicious wounding, one count of grand larceny auto and one count of felony eluding. No court date is available for the teen, who is being held at a juvenile detention facility. 

The passenger in the stolen vehicle, Jason Deangelo Lewis, 20, also faces serious charges. Lewis, from Alexandria, is charged with possession of stolen property and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Lewis' court date is set for Dec. 19, 2011 and he is being held on a $10,000 secured bond.
