Woodbridge Man Arrested After Fredericksburg Shooting Injures Two

Multiple fights at Central Station in Fredericksburg progressed into multiple shots fired.

Two men were shot and a large crowd interfered with officers trying to make an arrest early Sunday at KC's Music Alley and Central Station, Natatia Bledsoe, a City of Fredericksburg Police Department spokesperson told Patch.

Officers were in the area due to previous altercations during certain types of events at this facility, Bledsoe said. At about 1:50 a.m., an officer nearby but not on the property called in on the radio that he heard multiple shots fired, coming from the venue.

Responding law enforcement encountered hundreds of people exiting the building, Bledsoe said. A security guard was assisting one victim, who had been shot in the leg. The 29-year-old male from Montross, Va., was transported by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital.

A security guard alerted police he had seen a male with a gun in his waistband, and he provided a detailed description. The suspect was seen in the parking lot, and as police attempted to detain him, the man ran. When police apprehended the suspect, he reportedly fought back.

"While the offices were trying to take this person into custody, a crowd of about 50 people were trying to interfere, even attempting to grab the suspect away from the police," Bledsoe said. "The security guards put themselves between the officers and the crowd," she said.  During the fight, the gun was recovered, Bledsoe said.

Christopher Gyamfi, 23, of Woodbridge, was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon (he did not have a permit to carry concealed), resisting arrest and obstruction of justice. He was jailed at Rappahannock Region Jail with no bond.

Hospital personnel later notified police of a second gun shot victim who had arrived in the emergency room. The 26-year-old male from Spotsylvania also had a wound in his leg.

Police do not know if these men were the intended targets or accidental victims of the shooting. Witnesses reported there were multiple fights going on inside and outside the club. "It appears one of these fights inside the club was being carried outside when the shots occurred just outside the side exit of the building," Bledsoe said.

"We are still actively searching for suspects because we believe there are other people involved in the shooting incident," Bledsoe said. "We are certain more than two shots were fired," she said.

"We are hoping people will come forward with information, and we are asking anyone with any sort of images taken during the event to share them with us," she said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the City of Fredericksburg Police nonemergency number at 540-373-3122 or lead detective Carlos Reyes at 540-654-5919. Information may also be provided anonymously to the Police Department at this web link.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police all assisted, due to the large and volatile nature of the crowd, Bledsoe said.
