Woodbridge Man Charged With Raping Two Women at Springfield Hotel

Armed robbery also alleged in New Year's Day incident.

Franconia Police have charged a Woodbridge man with forcible rape and armed robbery after two women were allegedly sexually assaulted at a Springfield hotel, according to the Fairfax County Police Department Public Information Office. 

Police initially responded at about 6 p.m. on New Year's Day to the report of a man brandishing a gun at the Extended Stay Hotel on Metropolitan Center Drive. Police arrested the man as he attempted to run away. 

The accused allegedly arranged to meet two women through an online service. After he met them at the hotel, he "allegedly produced a gun, sexually assaulted both women and ordered them to engage in sex acts," according to the police report. "The women, ages 18 and 25, did not require medical attention."

Joshua T. Franklin, 24, was charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of forcible rape. 

Police are now investigating whether this incident is connected to similar incidents in other jurisdictions.
