Woodbridge Man Dies in Springfield Area Crash

Man was ejected from his car after hitting a fire hydrant.

Fairfax County Police report a 24-year-old Woodbridge man died Tuesday at about 11:45 p.m. following a crash on Leesville Boulevard in the Springfield area.

Paul Wickwire was driving his 1998 Ford Explorer east on Leesville Boulevard near Hinton Street when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and ran off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a fire hydrant and rolled over. The driver was ejected and died at the scene of the crash.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Preliminarily, they believe speed may have been a contributing factor.
