Woodbridge Mother Charged With Felony Child Neglect

The children were placed in foster care.

Police charged a Woodbridge mother with felony child neglect of her own children after a caller told police that she found the children unsupervised in the home, Prince William County Police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said.

Sabina Cerna Smith, 37, of the 16000 block of Crest Drive, was arrested March 24, the same day that Physical Abuse Unit detectives responded to the report of child neglect. The caller told police that Cerna Smith asked her to watch her four children on March 22.

"When the caller arrived at the residence, the accused was already gone and the children were unsupervised," Perok said. "On March 24, the accused had not returned to the residence and police were contacted."

Cerna Smith reportedly returned in the evening on March 24, and was arrested after the investigation.
