Anderson Says District Will Grow Slightly

Del. Rich Anderson said the 51st House District will grow in the 2011 redistricting.

Virginia’s 51st House district will expand slightly in the commonwealth redistricting process, according to Del. Rich Anderson (R-51).

The district, which includes Woodbridge as well as most of Lake Ridge, will need to add 2,400 residents to meet the goal of 80,010 residents per district. The house redistricting criteria call for each district to be within 1 percent of that ideal population.

Anderson said that he does not expect the redistricting to affect the 51st district dramatically, but said some residents who live near the boundaries could find themselves changing districts and being represented by a different delegate.

The House and Senate Committees on Privileges and Elections both met on Friday to consider the criteria for redistricting. Anderson said that the proposed boundary lines will be released on Tuesday, March 29, and two final rounds of public hearings will be held before the General Assembly convenes to debate and vote on the redistricting plan.

Residents concerned about the redistricting plan can attend the public hearings. Northern Virginia hearings will be held as follows:
