Bill Banning Texting While Driving Passes Va Senate Committee

George Barker's bill would make texting while driving primary offense.

Drivers used to texting on a cellular device behind the wheel could be in trouble if a bill proposed by Sen. George Barker (D-39) becomes law.

According to The Washington Post, SB219, which passed the Virginia Senate Courts of Justice Committee Monday by a vote of 10-4, would make texting while driving a primary offense.

Texting while driving is already a secondary offense in Virginia, meaning law enforcement must have another reason to pull over a driver.
