Board Pledges $40,000 to Red Cross, PWCS Accepting Donations

Donations are flowing in to the flood relief fund

Prince William County Schools is still accepting monetary donations for flood victims, but the road to recovery is just beginning.

Supervisor Frank Principi pledged $5,000 to the relief fund in the afternoon session of the board of county supervisors meeting. At the evening meeting, the board voted to transfer $40,000 to Red Cross for the flood victims. 

An advocacy homeless group in Woodbridge, AfterShare, said that 27 flood victims from six families were given clothes, shoes and other items at the center Tuesday night. On their Facebook page, the organization said that they are sharing food and clothing with flood victims, but cannot separate it from the general population.

School counselors, social workers, and the PWCS Office of Student Services have been working directly with the families displaced by the recent flooding to provide needed services. PWCS advises that it is critical for schools to receive any change of address immediately, especially those who have temporarily relocated because it make take up to three days to arrange changes in transportation.
