BOCS Chairman Corey Stewart: Virginians 'Deserve Better' Than Obama

"If hope and change means drastic cuts to the defense industry, and more than 200,000 jobs lost to Virginia, then Virginians hope we can return the change," Stewart said in a release.

Shortly after President Barack Obama finished speaking at a scheduled grassroots campaign stop today at Potomac Nationals' Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, Prince William County BOCS Chairman Corey released a statement criticizing what he called Obama's "drastic cuts to the defense industry."

"If hope and change means drastic cuts to the defense industry, and more than 200,000 jobs lost to Virginia, then Virginians hope we can return the change," Stewart said. "The only cuts in spending that President Obama has proposed will be crippling to our local economy and national defense."

Stewart said he was part of a small counter-rally of 25 to 30 Republicans just outside of the stadium. Stewart's office said in a release that Pfitzner Stadium's capacity is one tenth of the size of Obama's 2008 campaign kickoff location in PWC.

"The luster of President Obama's campaign promise of hope and change is gone, and you see that on the ground every day in Prince William County with overall lack of enthusiasm for the President and his re-election campaign," Stewart said. "Voters in Prince William County and the Commonwealth of Virginia realize the President has failed them and are turning to Republicans for commonsense, conservative solutions."

Stewart credits conservative state and local leadership with turning around Prince William County's economy.

"The looming threat of sequestration from President Obama has all Virginians greatly worried," he said. "If President Obama had any sort of leadership qualities, he would not have led our nation to this fiscal cliff. Virginians and Americans deserve better. The choice is clear. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are the only team who can change the trajectory of our country and get us back on the path of prosperity."

Stewart spoke with Patch just outside of Pfitzner Stadium about the county's willingness to work with the Obama campaign in providing security for the event.

"It is our obligation to provide adequate protection," he said. "We would provide it to a Republican or Democratic president. We have an obviously extremely professional police force that I know the Secret Service enjoys working with. They're really top notch."
