Election Day Underway in Prince William, Polls Steady

Polls close at 7 p.m. in the county.

Update 6:19 p.m.:

With less than an hour left until the polls close, voting seemed to have gone smoothly in eastern Prince William County.

Some polling officers reported confusion over redistricting, as a result some voters turned up to what was their normal polling location only to be sent elsewhere.

"I have never been to Belmont before," said one voter. "It was not easy to find." 

Turnout was lowest at Fred Lynn Middle School, with about 10 percent of voters turning up two hours before polls closed.

The longest line observed was at Dean Kilby Elementary School – seven people – with a full parking lot. 

Chief Officer Susan Stampe at Kilby said that the school saw nearly 25 percent of voters turning out. "We have a really, really good turnout," said Stampe.

Polls in Prince William County have been open since 6 a.m. and while The Washington Post predicts a low voter turnout across the state, voters are trickling into polling locations.

At the McCoart building around 9 a.m. this morning, a handful of campaign supporters for Miller Baker were outside the polling location but inside, there was next to no wait to vote.

Polling officers said there was a line outside the building before the poll opened at 6 a.m. and that they expect about a 30 percent voting turnout.

, said that there is a steady flow of voters in the Occquan district. There has been some voter confusion today since redistricting shifted some precincts. 

If a voter shows up at the wrong polling location, officials can help direct you to the correct poll.  Before you head out to vote today, double check where you vote.

Many voters were pleased to see the return of the at polling locations. Last year’s budget cuts did not allow for the stickers during the Nov. 2, 2010 elections.

Voters commented on our Facebook page that other precincts are expecting a 30 percent voting turnout.

Republicans will be holding a results party at from 7 to 11 p.m. Tuesday night. Democrats will have their results party at Harbor View events center starting at 7 p.m..
