Allen: Upcoming Election is 'Rendezvous With Destiny'

The breakfast event held at Coles district supervisor Marty Nohe’s family-owned business was the first of a series of events that former governor Allen and Chairman Corey Stewart attended throughout Wednesday.

Nohe introduced Allen to the crowd and talked about change in the government.

“I think this is an exciting time we. We have heard a lot the past four years about change,” said Nohe. He added that the upcoming election was an opportunity to “bring to this great nation the kind of change we really need."

“The important thing about Prince William County is this is the battleground,” Stewart said of the upcoming elections.

Allen talked about the need for affordable electricity, a well-educated workforce and a smaller, more transparent government. 

“We have energy policies that are so counter-productive,” said Allen, who believes the Commonwealth should be able to produce oil and gas off its own coast.

Allen spoke about the need to reform the healthcare system and to take government out of the equation where he believes doctors should be involved. 

“Kaine said Obamacare is a great achievement,” said Allen of his Democratic opponent for the Senate seat, former governor . “I want to be the deciding vote to appeal it.” 

Kaine’s press secretary, Lily Adams sees a different view on “Obamacare.”

"Governor Kaine believes the Affordable Care Act took important steps in delivering preventive care to millions of women, children and seniors and outlawing the worst discriminatory practices of insurance companies, but he also believes we must do more to control costs,” said Adams in an email. “While George Allen continues to praise the Ryan Budget that will cost the average senior nearly $6,000 more each year and gut Medicare funding, Governor Kaine believes we must take a balanced approach that will preserve essential programs.”

Allen encouraged the supporters in the room to get out the vote for the June 12 primary, where he faces Republican opponents , and E.W. Jackson.

“This election is our generation’s rendezvous with destiny,” said Allen. “I believe freedom hangs in the balance.”
