Live Blog: Board of County Supervisors Afternoon Meeting

From Prince William County government:

At the 2 p.m. meeting the Board will consider approval of the Biennial Citizen Satisfaction Survey.  The Board will also hear from the Planning Department regarding the initiation of a Comprehensive Plan Amendment at Brady’s Village and a Zoning Text Amendment to permit funeral homes, mortuaries and crematoriums by special use permit as accessory uses to cemeteries.

2:08 p.m. Chairman Stewart has welcomed one of the prospective state senators that will now represent the county . Senator Richard Stuart will represent the Gainesville area. 

2:10 p.m. Citizens Time is now open for public comment.

2:15 p.m. Citizens are thanking Coles district supervisor Marty Nohe for bumping the approval of the Purcell Road widening project. Nohe requested the item be withdrawn from today's meeting at the beginning of the 2 p.m. meeting. 

2:24 p.m. A resident is saying that million dollar improvements to Logmill Road is a waste of funds because Logmill Road was not a problem when the community was developed. 

2:26 p.m. The Purcell Road widening project is a federally funded project, "we are trying to fulfill that commitment to the Federal Highway Administration," said Tom Blaser with the Department of Transportation. 

2:29 p.m. Board is skipping to item 8G for the public hearing to budget and appropriate $8,905 from the Prince William Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to the police department to build a new database for the county shelter. 

2:33 p.m. Michelle Casciato is talking about the citizen survey and is recommending that the survey be moved to every other year rather than every year, as a cost cutting measure. Vote is unanimous to use another vendor and change the frequncy of the survey. 

2:49 p.m. If you're interested in seeing the reenactment of the Battle of First Manassas/Bull Run July 21-24 you are encouraged to get your tickets soon because there is a maximum number of people that can attend. 

3:04 p.m. All budget amendments have been adopted. The planning department is up next to talk about the comprehensive plan amendment for Brady's Village in the Potomac Communities. 

3:13 p.m. The comprehensive plan has been initiated. 

3:39 p.m. The board has closed the afternoon session.
