24/7 Wall St.: Virginia Ranked Among Best Run States

Website looks at best and worst run states in the country, Virginia hits top 10.

This website has ranked the nation's 50 states for two years in a row now. For the second year, Virginia falls within the top 10. 

24/7 Wall St. ranked Virginia as the eighth best run state in America in 2011. For 2010, the Commonwealth was ranked seventh. 

The website said it determined the ranking based on financial health, how it uses resources to provide living standards, crime rate, education and employment stats. According to 24/7 Wall St., Virginia has the 22nd lowest state debt per capita, 20th lowest percentage without health insurance, eight lowest percent below poverty line and tenth lowest unemployment rate.

"Virginia is the highest-ranked state in the southern U.S., largely because it does not suffer from many of the problems that plague the rest of the South," said the ranking. 

Virginia was ranked between Vermont (No. 7) and Kansas (No. 9). Wyoming took top billing in the website's rank.
