VRE Operations Board Meets to Modify Fares

Board meeting scheduled for Friday, April 20.

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Operations Board meets Friday, and their agenda includes a vote on whether to approve a proposed .  If adopted, the increase would take effect the first week of July 2012, to coincide with the start of FY2013.

Normal and discounted (advance purchase) fares (see document attached to this article) have been proposed for the 2013 fiscal year. The new per trip increase Woodbridge riders would increase $6 for monthly fares to Union Station and $0.25 for a single trip to Union Station.

The commuter rail service operates 29 trains from 18 stations serving the Northern Virginia suburbs to Alexandria, Crystal City and downtown Washington, D.C., along the Interstate 66 and I-95 corridors. Services began in 1992.
