Closing, Delay Decision from Prince William County Schools

PWCS has made a decision on whether to open schools during the expected snow storm Tuesday.

Prince William County Schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014.

Tuesday's weather forecast in Woodbridge calls for snow to start falling after 10 a.m, with up to 5 inches possible in the area during the day.

The message from the district:

On Tuesday, January 21, 2014 Prince William County Public Schools will be closed due to inclement weather in certain areas. Code Red for employees.

All school division activities including Professional Development sessions are cancelled. SACC will not open.

"The decision to change the school schedule is not made lightly," Superintendent Steven Walts wrote in a letter to parents this fall.

The district's transportation staff monitor roads and weather conditions in busy and remote travel areas of the county. The district also pulls information from the Virginia Department of Transportation, area police and the weather service.

"This combined information yields the best decision for the safety of everyone across our large School Division," Walts noted.
