School Closings, Delay Decision from Prince William County Schools

Here's where to find schools closing info for Friday.

With at least at least 6 inches of snow in most parts of the county, and possibly a foot or more in higher elevations, it's not surprising that a school decision is already on the board for Friday.

Prince William County Schools are closed on Friday, February 14, 2014.

From the district: "On Friday, February 14, 2014, all Prince William County Public Schools will be closed due to inclement weather in certain areas. Code Red for employees. All school division activities including Professional Development sessions are cancelled. SACC will not open."

"The decision to change the school schedule is not made lightly," Superintendent Steven Walts wrote in a letter to parents this fall.

The district's transportation staff monitor roads and weather conditions in busy and remote travel areas of the county. The district also pulls information from the Virginia Department of Transportation, area police and the weather service.

"This combined information yields the best decision for the safety of everyone across our large School Division," Walts noted.
