Schools Closed Tuesday for Inclement Weather

PWCS has closed schools because the poor weather conditions outside.

Prince William County Schools will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 22; the system is operating on a code red for employees. Wintry mix has already started to fall in many areas of the county and is expected to turn into snow late Monday night.

As a result, all extracurricular and after school activities have been canceled. There will be no before or after school day care as well.

There have been six closures due to inclement weather and three delays or early releases so far this winter.  That leaves the school system with nine extra hours in school instruction.

The state requires 180 school days each year or 990 instructional hours. PWCS approved 182 school days plus a parent-teacher conference at the elementary level and 183 school days at the secondary level.

If school is closed two more days, then the school year will either be extended or administrators will make other changes to regain the lost instructional hours to meet the state requirements.
