Nola Rose Revisited Blossoms in Occoquan

Nola Rose Revisited is participating in Small Business Saturday.

After being open for a few months in Poplar Alley near Cock & Bowl, Nola Rose Revisited has moved to Commerce Street in Occoquan. Owner Paige Patnode sells resale, upcycyled and new clothing and accessories for women and children.

"I recycle, I recreate," Patnode said. "I just like the joy when people find something cool."

Patnode and her business partner Barbara Brookover, who runs antiques business Peony Lane out of the Nola Rose Revisited storefront, opened Nola Rose Revisited in their new location two weeks ago.

Patnode is from New Orleans, Louisiana, and opened a shop in the French Quarter called Vintage Magnolia. Unfortunately, she opened right before the devastating oil spill in 2010.

"Summer's bad enough to do business. It's even worse when the whole Louisiana area basically got annihilated by the oil spill," Patnode said.

Before coming to Occoquan, Patnode sold some items on Etsy. She moved to Prince William County in April of 2012 with her husband, who is in the military. She opened Nola Rose Revisited in May of 2013.

"I came to Occoquan and I saw that there was a space available, and I said 'Honey, we're opening a resale shop,'" Patnode said. "He said, 'In six months to a year?' I said, 'In two weeks.'"

Patnode buys from her customers or offers them trades, although she may do away with trading in the future. She donates surplus items to ACTS and the military free sale. She also occasionally hunts for items when her stock gets lower.

"When I find extraordinary things, I pick them up," she said.

Nola Rose Revisited will be participating in Small Business Saturday and will also be open until 8 p.m. during the Holiday Open House on Nov. 22. Patnode will be serving cake and gumbo with turkey sausage.

Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 30 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked.
