Bottle Stop Brings New Wine Bar and Eatery to Occoquan

The Occoquan wine shop is participating in Small Business Saturday.

The Olde Dominion Wine Shoppe is now Bottle Stop, and features a new dining area and wine bar in its recently expanded space.

Bottle Stop owners Kim and Emil Wigode put out a Facebook request for help with choosing a new name for Olde Dominion Wine Shoppe, and someone submitted "Bottle Stop."

Bottle Stop opened Nov. 9 and will begin serving food in its eatery on Nov. 14. The wine bar has already opened.

"They wanted something different that would be just theirs. Olde Dominion was started by some ladies that were repping Virginia wines," employee Sally Christopher said. "They decided they wanted something to make it their own."

The Olde Dominion Wine Shoppe was in Occoquan for 15 years, and moved to the Bottle Stop's current location last winter.

At this point, Christopher estimates that the shop sells about 50 percent Virginia wines and 50 percent other wines.

"It's harder to get Virginia wines now because they're selling so much out of the wineries," she said.

Though Bottle Stop is not on the Small Business Saturday map, they will be offering 10 percent off wine shop purchases made on Nov. 30. In addition, they will discount Virginia wines by the glass.

Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 30 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked.
