Speak Out: Small Business Saturday in Woodbridge and Occoquan

Small Business Saturday is Nov. 30.

Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 30 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked.

Many Woodbridge and Occoquan merchants are participating, and you can check the Small Business Saturday map for participating stores near you. Sugar Buzz in Occoquan, for example, isn't just participating--the store is offering a sale, a special, and holiday drinks.
Sugar Buzz owner Debbie Delardi thinks events like Small Business Saturday are crucial for drawing much-needed customer traffic into Occoquan.
"I have people who live across the river who say, 'I've not even been in Occoquan. I've lived here for 15 years. I didn't know any of this was back here,'" she said.

Will you be participating in Small Business Saturday as a merchant or a customer? What local stores are you looking forward to supporting? Or will Nov. 30 be a day to rest after shopping at big box stores on Black Friday?
