Even Haircuts Can Be Fun For Kids!

Cartoon Cuts in Woodbridge!

Almost 5 years ago, when my daughter was 10 months old, we had our first family photography session. Next week, we’ll have our 2nd. Time to round up the family and schedule our haircuts.

For my daughter, that meant a trip to Dulles Town Center for a visit to Cartoon Cuts

As the name implies, Cartoon Cuts features a cartoon for the kids to watch to keep their minds (and heads) occupied while an experienced stylist goes to work on those precious locks.

Their first salon was opened in 1991, right down the road in Fairfax. They now have 17 salons in a number of states including a third in VA (in Woodbridge) and 4 in Maryland. In addition to general haircuts, they offer many other additional services and even have 3 birthday party themes.

After a quick trip to see the Easter Bunny and before a not-so-quick trip to the indoor playground, we headed to Cartoon Cuts for a quick ‘do and a “feature film.”

Before arriving at the salon, my wife texted me a picture of Suri Cruise. I showed it to my daugther's stylist, Miki and said, “Make her look like a star”.  After a quick laugh, and a gracious comment from Miki about my daughter's somewhat similar cut to Suri’s already, she went to work.

My daughter declined to have her hair washed by “Ellie the Elephant Wash” and immediately became entranced by that day’s showing of “Cars 2.”  I sat back and snapped a few pictures while noting little bits of hair falling to the ground.

Miki was very personable to both of us during our visit.  My daughter, a true girly-girl, especially enjoyed the blow dry at the end. She perused the floor to confirm that Miki didn’t cut off too much hair (it’s important for a 5 year old to have long hair, you know), checked herself in the mirror, and approved Miki’s work with a smile.

I approved her work as well and sent a text to my wife for the ultimate approval, which was immediately greeted with a reply of how beautiful she looked, followed by several exclamation points.

On the way out, I stood my ground and declined to purchase any of the myriad of kids hair products and treats, but allowed her to take her choice of lollipop (cotton candy flavor, of course).

As always, it was a fun trip to Cartoon Cuts and she is already asking if it’s time to head back -- as long as they leave her “long” hair intact!

BTW, you can enter to win a $20 gift card and take your son or daughter next week!
