Halloween in Occoquan Celebrates Town's History and Spookier Side

The Haunting of Occoquan, a History Hunt, and a Halloween Parade.

By Occoquan Mayor Earnie Porta

Occoquan starts gearing up for Halloween in earnest this weekend.  A number of business owners are already decorating to make Occoquan a Halloween town for the month.  The Business Guild of Occoquan is repeating last year's successful Haunting of Occoquan theme, in which participating businesses display life-size Halloween figures with whom visitors can have their photographs taken.

Book a historical ghost tour with Haunted Occoquan.

On Sunday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Business Guild will also sponsor an Occoquan History Hunt. Entry sheets will be available at businesses displaying orange balloons.

Later in the month, on Saturday, Oct. 26, more than twenty business owners are sponsoring a Halloween Parade with prizes for the best children and adult costumes.  The parade will start underneath the Route 123 bridge and proceed to the cul-de-sac at the end of Mill Street.  Everyone in costume is welcome in the parade; participants should gather no later than 10:30 a.m. at the parking lot underneath the Route 123 bridge.

We look forward to seeing you in Occoquan this month -- whether or not you are in costume!
