Virginia’s largest outlet mall, Potomac Mills, will soon get bigger. The store announced it would be expanding its footprint with exterior, freestanding restaurants between the AMC Potomac Mills Movie Theater and Costco. Restaurants joining the mall are The Cheesecake Factory and a Virginia first: a Bobby’s Burger Palace, which is a product of celebrity chef Bobby Flay. This will be the first Cheesecake Factory in Prince William County. WTOP.com reported that a Woodbridge man caught a snakehead in at tributary of the Potomac River that weighed over 18 pounds, which could be a world record. The fish—not native to the Washington, D.C. area—has been coined "Frankenfish" in the past because of their toothy appearance. Snakehead are an invasive species, it is illegal to own a live snakehead in Virginia without a permit. WTOP.com said the world record size for a snakehead was 17 pounds, four ounces in Japan. Injuries described as non-life-threatening at fire in office park. Two taken to hospital, one taken to burn center.
Firefighters were called out to a Lorton business park at 10440 Furnace Road for a fire reported at about 11 a.m. today, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. Three reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the fire, said Dan Schmidt, spokesman for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. The injuries were minor. Two were sent to the hospital and one person was sent to a burn unit. The fire was reported after an air-handling system malfunctioned in the building, fire officials said. “The sprinklers in the building activated and we responded to make sure the fire was out,” Schmidt said. Report details area homeless numbers.
A new report from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) said homelessness in Prince William County decreased 17 percent from last year. The report, Homeless in Metropolitan Washington, was released May 9 and cited that since 2008, the overall count of homeless decreased 15 percent. In terms of numbers, on the 2011 survey date 566 people said they were homeless. This year, 467 said they were homeless. To gather this data, the COG report takes a one-day survey throughout Northern Virginia jurisdictions on Jan. 25, 2012 to provide a “snapshot” of homelessness. The new 11th District stretches from Dale City to Reston, including all or part of Woodbridge, Lorton, Burke, Springfield, Fairfax, Vienna, Centreville and Annandale. Prince William County Police have charged a Woodbridge man with solicitation to commit capital murder. An investigation by the Homicide Unit of Prince William County Police Department and the ATF Northern Virginia Violent Crimes Task Force revealed that a murder-for-hire was allegedly arranged in the 15800 block of Donald Curtis Drive in Woodbridge. Outage determined to be from equipment upgrade.
Dominion Virginia Power customers in the Westridge neighborhood of Lake Ridge have been without power since Tuesday morning. The outage map on Dominion's website shows nearly 400 customers without power due to an equipment upgrade. The estimated restoration time is between 2 and 4 p.m. Dominion customers in the Forestdale Avenue and Hereford Road area of Dale City are also without power. It is still imperative to report a power outage to Dominion. Unless you report your outage, Dominion may not be aware power to your house is out.
