Torian Sponsors House Joint Resolution Honoring Kevin English

English passed away Jan. 15.

Delegate Luke Torian (D-52) has introduced a House Joint Resolution honoring former Dumfries Town Council and Prince William County Democratic Party member Kevin English, who passed away Jan. 15. English supported project Mend-a-House in Prince William County and was a realtor.   HJ 356 was introduced by Torian on Feb. 10 and is supported by senators Toddy Puller, George Barker and Chuck Colgan.  To read the entire bill, visit the legislative information system's website.

Keep Organized and Save Time During the School Year

How to cut down on spending and organize your house.

With a hectic schedule, my family got out of the habit of keeping things organized during the summer but when school began, mornings became so stressful searching for things as we got ready for school and were late often.  So many times we couldn't find what we wanted and even though I knew I had it somewhere, I had to buy even more necessities. Being disorganized with three boys became more than I could afford, so we spent a few days organizing closets, drawers and bedrooms.  I made it a fun project with many rewards, like finding things we never knew we had, precious items we thought were lost and wound up with doubles and triples of school supplies to last a semester.   We repurposed containers just the right size to keep their toys and…

In Their Own Words: Robert Haggerty’s Family on His Passing

After the May 26 military funeral, the family shared their memories of Haggerty as a husband and a father.

Robert "Bob" Haggerty, 79, and Life Member of the Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department, passed away on April 15 in his home in Compton, MD. He lived in Woodbridge for 36 years after he moved there in 1962.  After the funeral on May 26, in which Bob was given a military burial at Quantico National Ceremony, the family shared their memories of Bob as a husband and a father. After being born in Quantico on base on June 3, 1931, Bob lived in Occoquan as a child. “Dad used to tell stories about when he was a child,” his son Robert Haggerty, Jr, said. “They would be down in Occoquan - it reminded me of the show ‘The Little Rascals.’ When they were small - 6 or 7 - back then, Quantico marines would do maneuvers up to Occoquan. …

Robert G. Haggerty, a long time resident of Woodbridge, passed away April 15 and was remembered May 25 in a wake at Mountcastle Funeral Home in Woodbridge.

The life of Robert G. Haggerty was celebrated May 25 in a wake at Mountcastle Funeral Home in Woodbridge. Haggerty, a long time Woodbridge resident and a Life Member of OWL Volunteer Fire Department, passed away April 15 in his home in Compton, MD. "Mr. Haggerty served as a Delegate to the Prince William County Fireman's Association and the Prince William County Fire Board.  He held the rank of Assistant Fire Chief and President and was a member of the Board of Directors of OWL VFD," a prepared statement from OWL read.  Four members of the Fire Department Honor Guard from OWL Volunteer Fire Department Station 2 took turns standing watch at the wake, in full dress uniform.
