Inside the Diamond with Art Silber

The Potomac Nationals lay claim both to the 2010 Mills Cup Championship and the oldest first base coach in minor league baseball.

For 21 years, Art Silber, Chairman and CEO of the Potomac Nationals, has planned his weekends around baseball. If his team is on the road for the weekend, he is not far from game updates. But, if it is a home game weekend he will be on the field, sporting a P-Nats number 42 uniform. At home games, Silber dons a number 42 uniform and jogs out to first base, while tipping his cap to the applauding audience as the announcer playfully, but honestly, declares him the oldest first base coach in minor league baseball. Potomac Nationals Split Four Game Series Against Kinston Indians

Potomac Nationals head into the playoffs this week.

With the regular season winding down, the Potomac Nationals are fighting for their playoff lives in a final series. Having been eight games under .500 in the first half of the season, the Nationals have recently skyrocketed in the Carolina League standings. The Potomac Nationals have won seven of their last nine games prior to this most recent season-ending series against the Kinston Indians. The newly appointed Carolina League MVP, Tyler Moore, powered the second-half surge. Moore leads the league in both home runs and RBIs. Needing a win to clinch a playoff spot in the first game of the series, the Nationals sent Trevor Holder to the mound. Holder delivered a dominant pitching performance to lead the team to victory.
