Park Service: Sequestration Will Hurt Local Economies

The National Park Service says sequestration-related budget cuts could result in a reduced user experience.

The National Park Service cautions that impending sequestration budget cuts will result in a blow to local economies. There are 22 national parks in Virginia, which bring in $541 million annually, according to 2011 data.  The Park Service conducts activities at areas and historic buildings at Prince William Forest Park, Manassas National Battlefield Park, and Great Falls Park, to name a few. The National Park Service offers a list of its activities in the state. “People who visit parks need transportation, places to stay, and meals to eat – all of which support businesses and provide jobs in local communities,” Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said in a statement. Possible Human Skull Found in Prince William Forest Park

No other remains have been located.

Runners on a Prince William Forest Park trail found a possible human skull on Sunday, Prince William County police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said.  Police responded to the 17900 block of Joplin Road in Triangle Sunday at 1:28 p.m., after human remains were reportedly discovered in the area.  No other remains besides the skull have so far been found. The skull was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office.  It has not yet been determined how old the skull is or why it was in the park.
