The owners have stepped up to help those in need in the community
To celebrate Veterans Day, B-Thrifty super thrift shop will be having a 50 percent off sale for BIP card customers. What makes this sale special is that the owners of B-Thrifty will be donating ten percent of their November sales until Nov. 21 to the Holly Acres flood victims. Joon Park, one of the owners, projected that the donation will probably be $4,000 - $5,000. So, when you shop at the thrift store, the money you spend will make a big difference this month. B-Thrifty is one of the sponsors for a special Thanksgiving Dinner at Harbour View Marina, along with other community charities. B-Thrifty has only been open two and a half months and the owners want to keep everyone aware of the flood victims needs. Holly Morris from Fox 5 …

ACTS food pantry is in desperate need of help to restock its empty shelves in order to open doors. The pantry announced Tuesday that it had to temporarily close its doors until Nov. 1 because of a lack of food. ACTS serves over 2,000 people a month through its Dumfries food pantry. Ginger Trest, with family-owned Woodbridge and Dumfries Laundromat, saw a need in her community and decided to help. The laundromat's two locations will be hosting a food drive to help re-open the ACTS food pantry. Customers that bring a can of food will receive a $0.25 towards a wash or dry (up to four cans); customers that bring in a full bag of canned goods will receive up to a 30-pound wash and dry for free. Emphasis on the 'art' in Hardwood Artisans as the work of local artists is sold as accessories at the furniture retailer across the greater Washington area.
After more than three decades, Hardwood Artisans has developed a loyal following in the greater Washington area for its handcrafted wood furniture. More recently, the Woodbridge-based company began spotlighting the art among the artisans. Using their showroom as a gallery and a retail outlet, Hardwood Artisans developed a program that allows local artists to display their work on consignment, providing customers unique home accessories. Last week Hardwood Artisans opened its first Arlington store in Shirlington Village. A grand opening is scheduled for Oct. 1. Julianne Yurek, Hardwood Artisans' marketing director, started the program about two years ago when the company was opening its Fairfax store. “My background is in interior design. I…

Business on Route 1 was under 10 feet of water at the peak of the flooding.
Elizabeth Nuckols’ father has worked at A&M Auto Repair for 26 years. In the flooding during Sept. 8-10, the shop on Route 1 was under 10 feet of water and lost everything. “All their equipment to service the vehicles, it’s hundred of thousands of dollars lost,” said Nuckols at the board of county supervisors meeting on Tuesday. “I have a list of everything to replace but some things are so old they can’t be replaced.” Nuckols said that her family was not aware of the extent of the damage during the flooding, until her father came to work on Friday morning to find everything destroyed. “We lost three vehicles,” said Nuckols. “We have boats over there and one of the boats was carried to the front of the business.” Nuckols said that a …

Todos Super Market, which recently celebrated the grand opening of its Marumsco Plaza grocery store in Woodbridge, is proud to announce it has been selected as the Retail Sector winner in a University of Virginia competition that highlights and promotes the most resilient businesses in economically-challenged parts of the Commonwealth. “Todos experienced 17 years of successful growth until the turmoil caused in 2007 by the Prince William County ‘Rule of Law’ illegal immigration resolution and the directive that changed it in 2008. We were an active participant in the debate and we continued to invest our resources in the community, even after the downturn that followed. We never gave up on our community, and we are grateful to that …
