In a rough economy, what happens to the youth?
A recent study said that the employment reality for recent high school graduates is “bleak” as only one in three graduates is employed full time. The study cited in a recent New York Times article on bland graduation results came from Rutgers’s John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development entitled “Left Out. Forgotten? Recent High School Graduates and the Great Recession.” The report took a national sample of 544 recent high school graduates from 2006 to 2011, to try and understand how high school graduates are “faring in the workforce.” By the numbers, the employment status of the sample group looks like this, according to the survey: Graduations for Woodbridge-area students start this Friday. Woodbridge-area high school seniors will graduate this weekend at various ceremonies around the Northern Virginia area. The Woodbridge Senior High School Vikings will graduate from the high school's football stadium on Saturday at 9 a.m. Way Off Broadway Video Company will videotape the graduation. The 4.0 or higher GPA graduates will be honored Monday
Prince William County Schools announced that more than 400 summa cum laude graduates of Prince William County high schools will be honored at a School Division reception and ceremony on Monday. The ceremony will take place at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas at 7 p.m. Prince William County School Board members, superintendent Steven Walts and his staff, and high school administrators will be among school officials participating or attending the event. The students earning the distinction of summa cum laude are high school seniors who have attained a grade point average of 4.0 or higher over four years.
