Long Lines, Strong Cravings at Bobby's Burger Palace Opening

The celebrity chef was there in person for the public opening.

By the time the doors of Bobby's Burger Palace opened at noon on Wednesday, a couple hundred people were in line outside.

"I got here at 8 a.m. this morning because I wanted to be first in line," Rebecca Voss said, holding a cookbook for celebrity chef Bobby Flay to sign. "My husband is a big Bobby Flay fan. He's my husband's favorite chef."

"I got there at 10, and she was ready to fight," Joyce Entremont said, laughing.

Several in line wanted to crunchify their burgers -- to order the burger with potato chips on top.

"We haven't seen the menu, but we're definitely going to crunchify it." Patty Bennett said

"I was looking at the Dallas Burger, maybe? And some chips on top," Shawnetta West said. "And maybe a milkshake."

Flay is known for his Food Network shows and for his restaurants, including Mesa Grill and Bobby's Burger Palace.

"I'm looking for new and creative things, and he always does new and creative things," said Stephen Power, owner of the Blue Arbor Cafe in Occoquan.

Flay said he opened Bobby's Burger Palace because he was a "burger guy," and burgers have been one of his favorite meals since childhood.

While many burger places serve the traditional trifecta of burgers, fries, and shakes, few get more than one or two out of the three right, Flay said, explaining the philosophy behind the quality of the ingredients and processes that he selects.
