Greystone Battles Nature to Help a Neighbor in Dumfries

Greystone recently partnered with Habitat for Humanity to sponsor a volunteer workday at a Dumfries home. On Thursday, July 11, more than 40 Greystone employees gathered at the home of Viola, 85, who needed help clearing overgrown shrubs, trees and vines from her property. The overgrowth was beginning to take over her home and was becoming a safety hazard.

The hot and humid conditions didn't faze the Greystone team one bit! They tackled this project with gusto and nothing slowed them down. The team was able to clear all of the hazardous overgrowth from the property and was very happy that they were able to help Habitat give Viola a “hand up.”

Habitat for Humanity’s Critical Home Repair programs provide extensive interior or exterior home repairs that alleviate health, life and safety issues or housing code violations for homeowners who could otherwise not afford to have them done. Families are chosen based on need, income eligibility and willingness to partner with Habitat. Partner families pay a portion of the cost of repairs to ensure sustainability and because they need a hand up, not a hand out.
