A local police dog needs help getting a root canal and crowns after breaking three of his teeth and damaging a fourth one. Woodbridge resident and Metro Transit Police K9 Officer Steven Morrison started an Indiegogo fundraiser this week to raise money for his four-legged partner.

"My K9 partner Blu has recently broken three of his canine teeth and the fourth one is scored," Morrison wrote on the Indiegogo page. "He will need to have three root canals and crowns placed on all four teeth."

The fundraiser has already raised over $9500 in the day since it was started. Its original goal was $6800.

The Metro Transit Police Department had decided to retire Blu after he damaged his teeth, but Morrison said that Blu will be "able to return to full duty status with no restrictions" once he gets this dental procedure.

Blu is a 3-year-old Malinois, or Belgian Shepherd Dog, and he placed twelfth in USPCA PD1 field trials in 2012.

"Blu is a loyal partner who has many years left to give to the police department and the citizens of Washington, DC, if given the chance," Morrison wrote.
